Tickets: check. Identification: check. Now let’s talk baggage. Whether you’re traveling internationally, to or from North America or between the Hawaiian Islands, here’s what you’ll need to know to start your trip off right.
You’re welcome to bring on board one piece of carry-on baggage and one personal item.
What’s a personal item? It’s one of the following:
Your carry-on bag is fine if it’s within the following limits:
Your primary storage area is the space under the seat in front of you. The overhead compartments are for all passengers and are on a first come, first served basis. If your carry-on item cannot safely be stored under the seat in front of you or in the overhead bin, or if all storage areas are full, we may have to ask you to check in your baggage for pick-up at your destination.
For 'Ohana by Hawaiian flights operated by Empire Airlines, carry-on items that do not fit in an overhead compartment will be valet-checked at the gate. We’ll take good care of your bags-and have them ready for pickup when you deplane.
For restrictions on liquids, please see the TSA 3-1-1 guidelines.
If you’re an adult traveling with children, you may bring on board the following as part of your carry-on baggage allowance-as long as the items can properly fit in the overhead compartment or beneath the seat in front of you. If these items are checked in, they’ll be exempt from baggage fees for the ticketed adult passenger who’s traveling with the child. (There is no separate baggage allowance for an infant you hold in your lap.)
Need information on traveling with infants? It’s all on our Traveling with Infants page.
Traveling from point to point within North America? This section is for you.
Let’s start with the best part: If you’re a HawaiianMiles member, you’ll love the discounts on your first two checked bags on Neighbor Island flights. The table below shows how much members and non-members pay for each checked piece on Neighbor Island and North America flights.
Please keep in mind that fees are charged per piece, each way, and are non-refundable. And there are extra charges for luggage that is overweight or oversize.

The following baggage fees apply to luggage that meet the below requirements:
Baggage rules will apply based on a single carrier's rules for the entire journey subject to DOT regulations that govern which airline's rules will apply on a single ticket.
*Restrictions may apply. As a member benefit, HawaiianMiles members will enjoy reduced 1st and 2nd checked baggage fees when flying between the Neighbor Islands, traveling wholly within the State of Hawaii. For example, a ticket from Honolulu (Oahu) to Kahului (Maui) is considered a Neighbor Island ticket, and therefore, Neighbor Island bag fees apply. A ticket from JFK to Kahului with a connection in Honolulu will be considered a North America ticket, and therefore, North America bag fees apply. Discount applies to confirmed Hawaiian Airlines revenue tickets and flight award tickets redeemed with HawaiianMiles. Discount is applicable on any fare class ticket. Baggage discounts will only be applied when your HawaiianMiles number is present in your reservation, or added prior to completing the check-in process.
Purchasing tickets through codeshare partners: In compliance with DOT regulations, Hawaiian Airlines must be the marketing carrier on your itinerary to assure that this benefit is applied (i.e. ticket shows a Hawaiian Airlines flight number for the first flight on the ticket). If you are a member of HawaiianMiles and another airline’s frequent flyer program, your HawaiianMiles number must be the only frequent flyer number present in your reservation, to be eligible for the baggage discount. This also means you will be earning HawaiianMiles for your entire itinerary; mileage credit will not be posted to any other frequent flyer program.
*Pualani Platinum members receive the first three (3) bags complimentary. Applies to members only. Applicable overweight and excess baggage fees will apply. The next additional bag will be charged at the 4th bag fee.

All ticket purchases (original and exchanges) must be made with the Hawaiian Airlines World Elite MasterCard premium product and purchased directly from Hawaiian Airlines. HA Vacation Package purchases do not qualify as direct purchases from Hawaiian Airlines. Applicable overweight and excess baggage fees will apply. The one (1) complimentary checked bag is valued at the first checked bag fee ($15 for flights purchased on/after March 10th, 2014). Any additional checked bags will be charged at the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc. baggage fee.
Elite Members and Premier Club Members who are also the primary cardholder of the Hawaiian Airlines World Elite MasterCard, will receive one (1) complimentary checked bag in addition to their membership baggage allowance when purchasing Domestic or Neighbor Island tickets directly from Hawaiian Airlines using their Hawaiian Airlines World Elite MasterCard. The one (1) complimentary checked bag is valued at the first checked bag fee ($15 for flights purchased on/after March 10th, 2014). Any additional checked bags above your total allowance will be charged at the next sequential bag fee. For example, a Pualani Platinum member who is also a Primary Cardmember and checks in five (5) bags will get their first four (4) bags complimentary and then will be charged at the 5th bag fee for the fifth bag.
