Each ticketed passenger is limited to one piece of carry-on baggage and one personal item. The following restrictions apply:
Your primary storage area is the space under the seat in front of you. The overhead compartments are on a first come, first serve basis and are for all passengers. If your carry on item is unable to be safely stored under the seat in front of you or in the overhead compartment, or if all storage areas are full, you may be asked to check in your baggage for pick-up upon your arrival.
For 'Ohana by Hawaiian flights operated by Empire Airlines, carry-on items that do not fit in an overhead compartment will be valet checked at the gate. Valet bags will be available for pickup upon deplaning.
For liquid restrictions, please see the TSA 3-1-1 guidelines.
For adults traveling with children, the following items may be carried on the aircraft as part of your carry-on baggage allowance provided the item can properly fit in the overhead compartment or stowed beneath the seat in front. These items may also be accepted as check-in baggage and exempt from baggage fees for the accompanying ticketed adult passenger, as long as traveling with the child (There is no separate baggage allowance for infants held in a passenger’s lap).
For more information regarding traveling with infants, please visit our Traveling with Infants page.
Domestic check-in luggage fees apply to transportation solely within the United States. Fees are assessed per piece, each way, and non-refundable.
Each piece of baggage will be subject to the charges described below. Excess weight and oversize luggage will be subject to additional charges as shown below. For sporting goods or specialty item fees and conditions of acceptance, please visit our Contract of Carriage.
Baggage rules will apply based on a single carrier's rules for the entire journey subject to DOT regulations that govern which airline's rules will apply on a single ticket.
The following baggage fees apply to luggage that meet the below requirements:
Neighbor Islands (USD)
North America (USD)
*Restrictions may apply. As a member benefit, HawaiianMiles members will enjoy reduced 1st and 2nd checked baggage fees when flying between the Neighbor Islands, traveling wholly within the State of Hawaii. For example, a ticket from Honolulu (Oahu) to Kahului (Maui) is considered a Neighbor Island ticket, and therefore, Neighbor Island bag fees apply. A ticket from JFK to Kahului with a connection in Honolulu will be considered a North America ticket, and therefore, North America bag fees apply. Discount applies to confirmed Hawaiian Airlines revenue tickets and flight award tickets redeemed with HawaiianMiles. Discount is applicable on any fare class ticket. For our system to automatically apply the discount, your HawaiianMiles number must be in your reservation, prior to travel.
Purchasing tickets through codeshare partners: If you are a member of HawaiianMiles and another airline’s frequent flyer program, your HawaiianMiles number must be the only frequent flyer number present in your reservation, to be eligible for the baggage discount. This also means you will be earning HawaiianMiles for your entire itinerary; mileage credit will not be posted to any other frequent flyer program. In compliance with DOT regulations, Hawaiian Airlines must also be the marketing carrier on your itinerary to assure that this benefit is applied (i.e. ticket shows a Hawaiian Airlines flight number for the first flight on the ticket).
