Special Items - Shooting Equipment

Shooting Equipment will only be accepted as checked baggage with the following conditions of acceptance and restrictions:

Firearms:

Domestic Restrictions:

New York

  • Firearms may not arrive or transit to the state of New York without a New York state weapons license

International Restrictions:

Papeete, Tahiti

  • Not permitted to/from Papeete with the exception of bang stick for diving

Pago Pago, American Samoa

  • Permitted to/from Pago Pago
  • Must obtain permit from the government of American Samoa

Sydney, Australia

  • Permitted to/from Sydney
  • Permission from the host government is required

Conditions of Acceptance:

  1. Advanced arrangements must be made, by calling Hawaiian Airlines Reservations
  2. Items of shooting equipment will be accepted only as checked baggage subject to the conditions specified below:
    1. One (1) rifle case containing not more than two rifles, with or without scopes
      11 lbs (5 kg) of ammunition
      One (1) shooting mat
      Noise suppressors and small rifle tools
        - OR -
    2. Two Shotguns and two shotgun cases
      11 lbs (5 kg) ammunition
        - OR -
    3. One pistol case containing not more than five pistols
  3. Firearms must be unloaded and placed in a suitable container subject to the conditions specified below:
    1. Firearms must be packed in a manufacturer's crush-proof type container, manufactured specifically for the firearms 
       - OR -
    2. A hard-sided container specifically designed for the same purpose
  4. Baggage containing firearms must be of the hard-sided type and locked with a key or lock combination in possession of the passenger only 
    Note: Ok to place firearms in a crushproof container with no lock and then in a  locked hard side suitcase.
  5. Baggage containing firearms will be transported in an area, other than the cockpit, that is inaccessible to passengers
  6. Baggage containing firearms must be declared upon check-in with an agent

Minors with Firearms:

Per State and Federal Laws, it is illegal for person under the age of 21 to carry firearms.

Ammunition:

In addition to the firearm, a maximum of 11 lbs of ammunition per passenger may be transported.

Ammunition must be packed separate from firearms (not loaded) in the manufacturer's original package or securely packed in fiber, wood, or metal boxes. 

Firearm Fees:

When in excess, firearms will be subject to the excess baggage charge for a single piece, whether or not presented as a single piece. Any piece over 70 lbs/32 kg will not be accepted as checked baggage for either Domestic or International travel.

Declaration of Firearms:

Upon check-in at the airport, passenger must declare that their baggage contains firearms and at that time Hawaiian Airlines will inspect firearms to see if they comply with our rules. After inspection, passengers must fill out a declaration form declaring that the firearms are not loaded.



Paintball Guns

Items of paintball gun equipment will be accepted as checked baggage subject to fees and the conditions of acceptance specified below. For this purpose, paintball equipment is defined as one paintball gun with one barrel, one hopper and one mask.

Conditions of Acceptance:

  1. Passenger must declare that they are transporting a paintball gun
  2. CO2 tank must be removed and must be empty
  3. Barrel and hopper must be removed
  4. Gun must be placed inside a case 

Paintball Gun Fees:

When in excess each item will be subject to the excess baggage charge for a single piece, whether or not presented as a single piece.



Airsoft Guns

Items of airsoft gun equipment will be accepted as checked baggage subject to the conditions and charges specified below. For this purpose, airsoft equipment is defined as one airsoft gun with one barrel, one magazine and one mask.

Conditions of Acceptance:

  1. Passenger must declare that they are transporting an airsoft gun
  2. CO2 tank/magazine must be removed and must be empty
  3. Magazine must be removed
  4. Gun must be placed inside a case

Airsoft Gun Fees:

When in excess each item will be subject to the excess baggage charge for a single piece, whether or not presented as a single piece.
