Hawaiian Airlines would like to ensure that your pet bird’s journey with us is as safe and comfortable as it can be. For more on which birds qualify as check-in baggage, what’s involved and what you need to do, read on.

Household birds are welcome to fly with us as check-in baggage on nonstop flights between North America and Honolulu, Kahului, Lihue and Kona, as well as between these State of Hawaii destinations. Pet reservations are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Bird companions travel in a comfortably pressurized, temperature-controlled baggage compartment. There are a few exceptions: We do allow in the passenger cabin trained service animals, as defined by 14CFR Part 382, who are required by qualified individuals with a disability to perform necessary activities. Hawaiian Airlines will also accept in the cabin service animals used for emotional support, psychiatric service or comfort, as long as they have the proper and current documentation.
The maximum weight of your household bird and its kennel cannot exceed 70 lbs (32 kg). For the comfort and safety of all pets, how many pet spaces a flight can offer will depend on the type of aircraft. You can check in more than one pet, as long as space is available.
Finally, remember to make reservations for your pet bird to travel as check-in baggage only after your own reservation has been ticketed.
Please call Hawaiian Airlines Reservations Hawaiian Airlines Reservations to check pet space availability and reserve space for your pet bird.
Before we go any further, safety precautions and local regulations limit when and where we can transport your pet bird as check-in baggage, and what kinds of birds qualify as household birds.
Household birds covers types of birds people keep as pets. Chickens, roosters, fighting chickens or any live poultry, including day-old chicks or hatching eggs, are NOT considered household birds and cannot be accepted for transport.
Sometimes the weather just won’t cooperate with forecasts. If we cannot accept your pet bird for a flight because temperatures are too high or low for its safety, you can rebook on the next flight that has space for both you and your pet. And we’ll waive any applicable fare differences or date change penalties, as long as you rebook for the same fare class (First, Business or Main Cabin) as your original ticket.
For more information on our pet acceptance policies, see our Domestic Domestic / International Contract of Carriage International Contract of Carriage.
Hawaiian Airlines charges by the kennel for each direction traveled, so a round-trip journey means you’ll pay a one-way pet check-in fee twice. If you decide to add in a stopover along the way, you’ll pay separate pet check-in fees to and from your stopover point. All fees All feesare subject to change.
