Weight Calculations

Exempt
First Class Passengers, International Travel, North America HCP Travel, Pualani Gold/Premier Club/Corporate Members, GOV/MIL Fare Travel, are allowed two (2) bags free of charge. Excess size/weight or special item charge may apply.
Pualani Platinum members are allowed three (3) bags free of charge. Excess size/weight or special item charge may apply.

Military Baggage Exemption

Qualified US military passengers must check in at HA airport counters in order to benefit from this baggage allowance.
Kiosk and web-check in will only permit up to two (2) free bags for military passengers traveling on Military/Government fares.

For tickets issued on/after November 4, 2012

Travel on Military Orders
Active duty US military passengers and their qualified dependents will be allowed four (4) checked bags per person for coach/first/business classes of service free of charge when traveling on orders on HA system-wide travel.   
Each bag is limited to maximum of 70 lbs. and 80 linear inches.   
Dependents need not be accompanied by active duty US military family member provided that orders are presented at time of travel. HA representatives should validate that proof of orders has a current (recent) date to qualify for free baggage allowance.
On Personal Travel
Active duty US military personnel only will be allowed two (2) checked bags per person for coach/ first/business classes of service free of charge when on personal travel.   
Baggage allowance for military personnel on personal travel is limited to maximum of 50 lbs. and 62 linear inches without charge.   
Military bag fee waiver will not apply to US military dependents on personal travel.
Bags must comply with any other size restrictions as set forth in HA Contract of Carriage.

*US active duty military personnel and/or their qualified dependents must present valid military ID at time of check-in to qualify.

***Note: Self-Service Kiosks can process the additional baggage allowances but only via 'Agent Assist' mode. Web check-in will only permit up to 2 free bags for military passengers traveling on MIL/GOV fares. Qualified military passengers may also check in at HA airport ticket counters in order to benefit from this baggage allowance.  


For Tickets issued on/before November 3, 2012

Active duty US military passengers and their dependents will be allowed four (4) bags for coach and five (5) bags for first/business class of service free of charge, regardless of reason for travel or ticketed fare type. Active duty military personnel and/or their qualified dependents must present valid military ID at time of check-in to qualify.

Bags are subject to maximum baggage weight of 70 lbs. per piece, and must comply with size restrictions as set forth in HA Contract of Carriage. Baggage in excess of 70 lbs. will not be accepted.

Surf, Kite, Paddle and Wake boards
For travel between USA and Australia or New Zealand, boards will be included in the free baggage allowance when travel is non-stop, direct and/or connecting service. Boards in excess of the free baggage allowance and/or when en route stopover exceeding 24 hours occurs, will always be subject to the applicable baggage charges. Baggage rules will apply based on a single carrier's rules for the entire journey subject to DOT regulations that govern which airline's rules will apply on a single ticket.

Ticketing Fee / Restrictions
Ticketing fee applies per passenger and is non-refundable. Tickets are non-transferable, non-refundable, and any voluntary change made will be subject to a change fee plus any applicable fare difference. Tickets are valid for one year from date of issuance. Ticketing fee applies to both revenue and award (mileage redemption) reservations.

Day of Departure First Class Upgrade
First class upgrades on the day of departure are available at a discounted rate and are based on availability. These upgrades can be made via web / kiosk check-in 24 hours prior to departure. Before 24 hours prior to departure, normal change rules (fare difference + change fee) apply.

Change Fee
Change fee dependent on class of service, date, origin/destination, and ticket status. See Fare Rules for more details on change restrictions and charges.

Unaccompanied Minors
Passengers under 5 years old may not travel without a companion at least 15 years old (North America / Neighbor Island flights) or 18 years old (International flights).
Passengers 5 to 11 years old traveling without a companion at least 15 years old on Domestic Flights (North America / Neighbor Island) are considered unaccompanied minors and will be subject to service fees and additional requirements.
Passengers under 12 years old may not travel without a companion at least 18 years old on International Flights.
Passengers 12 years old and above may travel unaccompanied.
Passengers under 18 years old traveling on International flights may require additional documentation. Please check with your local consulate.

Other Airlines

For reservations connecting with other airlines, the baggage fees and rules of the first marketing carrier applies throughout the itinerary. For example, if you are traveling roundtrip from Honolulu, Hawaii to Austin, Texas, and connecting from Hawaiian Airlines to United Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines baggage fees and rules would apply both ways.

Connections between interline partner carriers must be made between 4 hours and the minimum connection time (varies), else it is considered a stopover and you will need to collect your bags and check back in. If you have a separate confirmation code for a connecting flight, please check in with an airport agent at your point of origin. Beginning June 1, 2012, Hawaiian will not through check bags to other airline flights unless the other airline segments are on the same itinerary for which the passenger is checking in.

Exemptions from bag fees related to frequent flyer status on partner airlines may not apply when checking in on Hawaiian.
